"It will be my pleasure!" Henry valued learning. And, as such, he valued teaching, too. He seldom had the opportunity to teach someone something one-on-one. So it would be a first, but haven't they already had many firsts together?
"Maybe there can be something I can teach you too. Like the violin." He didn't even know if they could find one here. It didn't matter really. He was just delighted at the idea of them teaching other things that they loved.
"I'll be an eager student." Whether or not he'll be any good at whatever instrument Gaura chooses, that's to be determined. But he'll be incredibly happy to try!
"You always are." He leaned over so he could press a soft kiss to his lips. "I love that about you. It makes me excited to see the world through your eyes because of it."
Henry felt his cheeks warm at the compliment. Gaura really did bring out the best in him, never letting him fall too deeply into himself and his obsessions.
"There's so much to know... I just want to learn as much as I can."
"I know. I want you to as well since it makes your voice so excited when you share it with me." He was sure it made him smile too but he would never know that. He just had to rely on the changes in his voice. Which he loved to do anyway so he didn't mind.
"So you should keep learning. Then I keep hearing that wonderful sound in your voice."
Henry never thought of it much, but both Gaura and Tobias mentioned how expressive his voice was. Wasn't that precisely what voices were for? Well, he wasn't self-conscious since Gaura enjoyed it.
"There's so much to tell... What if you ask me questions? Then I'll have a foundation to go from."
Somewhere to begin. Rather than trying to explain the many different facets of it since he'd been born and raised in New York but had moved across the country to Los Angeles.
Henry hums thoughtfully, trying to think of a place to start. Of course, tell me all about yourself is such a vast question. Honing in on something will help them both find a focus in the conversation.
"Tell me about the places you've lived. What memories stick out, what made you happy."
Gaura nodded as he looked up while he recalled the various places that he'd lived. "I've been all over America but I think I like Los Angeles, California the most."
He blinked when he realized that because he didn't know all the dates and such for when Henry was from he might not know about California. So he looked over at him. "Is California a state in America yet for you?"
Those pale eyes looked off for a second and he had to think. He didn't live in the United States, so it took a moment. Then he bobbed his head in a nod. "Yes, yes it is. I'm from the 1880s," he added in case he'd never mentioned that before.
Gaura smiled because that would make things easier. "There's a big city in California called Los Angeles. It's a cultural melting pot where you have people from all over the world bringing their cultures there. I've been living in a poorer part of Koreatown but even then it's been nice to move through the streets to see everything."
He couldn't recognize faces and he could get lost easily but that didn't mean he enjoyed himself. "Once I took the train all the way over to the coast. There were a lot of people around but I loved being able to step out to see the vastness of the ocean. The world is truly so big and there's so much that hasn't been explored. So whenever I can afford it now I like to just take the train and let it sort of...pick where I go. To see something new. Los Angeles is somewhere that I feel you would love just because there is so much to see there at all times of the day. Just a plethora of things to discover in the huge city."
HE could hear the happiness in Gaura's voice as he recounted the memory. He could imagine the vast sea and the people milling about. He's been to the coast before, but not the American coast, which he can only imagine from maps was vast and sprawling.
"It's very large. And then each state you go to is like experience a new culture. Or in a state like California different regions can be like their own. Even during my worst times it was still so exciting and fun to learn about the world around me."
New York certainly had a lot of culture to it as well. But having only lived there until he was sixteen there had much he hadn't seen. Traveling for six years had changed so much of that. There were disadvantages to his condition but he'd found the advantages to is as well.
"We should explore this place more." He has a map with detailed notes about the regions of Nippon from things he's read and heard and experienced himself. "One region at a time. Wouldn't that be fun?"
"It would! Maybe there's some cute places where we could spend a night at. For a romantic getaway for a night." They were both interested in exploration but they were both so attached to their home. But a night away? He was sure they'd both love that and it wouldn't feel like they were gone too long.
"I would like that!" He did love their home and the time they spent in it. But travel was important to Henry, too. He loved a little adventure. And Nippon was a small country, like England, so they could travel a lot without having to spend a great deal of time doing so.
"Let's look for one then. It would be nice to experience a day somewhere new. It would give you so much to write about for your studies too, I'm sure." Because he would always encourage Henry's passion for his work. Never was he going to discourage him from pursuing that. The man he loved deserved to have the things he loved acknowledged.
"I'm trying to work on a regional guide to the local flora and fauna, including the ayakashi." Being able to take a few day trips here and there has been helpful, but an overnight stay would allow them to travel a little further away. It was perfect!
"This should help with that then. You'll be better able to note things that might only come out at night."
Gaura smiled brightly just thinking of how excited Henry was going to end up being. It was something he was looking forward to already. "I'm excited for when you share what you find with me."
"I can get out my map later and we can choose where we want to go first!" He's very excited about this! Not only would he get to enhance his studies of this place, but he could do it while spending time with Gaura!
"Yes please! Maybe for our first time we can go somewhere we've already been. That way it'll be more of a deep exploration to see if we find something new." That seemed a nice way to go about it. Then they could start branching out to places they weren't familiar with in future adventures.
"Do you remember when we did the oni trials? We were so busy that we didn't really have the chance to appreciate some of the places there. I hear there's hot springs there too which we didn't see. We could revisit there and spend the night there at the springs?" That seemed a good start. They wouldn't have to do the trials again since they'd already done them. Instead they could just go and enjoy exploring the new culture together which would be lovely really.
Henry perked up at the suggestion, nodding along the more Gaura spoke. It would be nice to be able to actually enjoy seeing the sights there. There was so much they didn't get to experience because of their participation in the trials.
